Celebrating Summer!!

July 2022

MID SUMMER GARDENING TIPS
Let’s talk about mulch ~  Covering the soil to create favourable conditions for plant growth. This simple practice helps your garden in so many ways:
* Suppresses weeds
* Retains moisture
* Helps to build biomass
* Can feed the plants, depending on what you use

Mulch materials include straw or spoiled hay, fresh-cut forage or cover crops, chipped brush, wood shavings, tree leaves. We LOVE to use Comfrey leaves, because they add nitrogen to the soil and their high potassium content makes them especially beneficial for vegetables such as tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers, berries, and fruit trees.

PLANTING FOR THE FALL & WINTER GARDEN
Now is the time to start planting for fall and overwinter crops.
Broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, spinach, onions and more…..We love to reference West Coast Seeds for Garden Wisdom. Check out this great article about overwinter crops….

ZUCCHINI FRITTERS
GLUTEN FREE & LOW CARB!! This simple and yummy use for the masses of zucchini that are exploding in many gardens is a great addition to any meal. A great way to use leftover crumbs from our UBAKE crackers, bread or burger mixes. We love to serve them with our Vegan Caesar Salad DRESSING
